The Team

Chris Harvie of Rissington Inn

Chris Harvie

Chris is the owner and founder of Rissington, an inveterate traveller and a well-known South African travel writer. Chris loves nothing more than to engage with intelligent like-minded people for a good chat in the bar and to share travel stories. He knows Southern Africa as well as almost anyone and he’s full of suggestions, wild ideas and a fair bit of history too, even if his tales can occasionally be a bit far-fetched!

  Hlengiwe Thabethe of Rissington Inn

Hlengiwe Thabethe

Hlengiwe has been the brains of Rissington for more than ten years. She is an efficient, charming and highly effective manager. She’s in charge of all the reservations and the admin and she’ll keep everything running smoothly before, during and after your stay. Ask her about her lunch with the Zimbabwean Minister of Tourism …

Bobo Mkansi

Bobo Mkansi

Bobo has been around Rissington since he was ten years old. Now he is nineteen and a key member of the team with his quick sense of humour and ready smile (not to mention his spectacular dreadlocks). Need a drink? Bobo is at the Bar. Want to go out and meet the locals? Bobo is your man. Interested in soccer? Bobo will be playing for Barcelona one day!

  Thandi Nyalungu of Rissington Inn

Thandi Nyalungu

Thandi is Rissington’s Head Chef and was here when we opened in 1995. She is a natural foodie and a popular and inspirational leader in her cheerful kitchen domain, where she and her five willing cohorts prepare reliably delicious meals day after day after day.

Sipho Mhlanga of Rissington Inn

Sipho Mhlanga

Sipho is a gentle soul and he has been Rissington’s driver since the day we opened. By his own reckoning, he has been responsible for keeping the lodge equipped and supplied with the use, over the years, of no fewer than seventeen different cars.

JJ of Rissington Inn

This is JJ. Chris brought up his father, so he is the grandson of Rissington! And he loves nothing more than to rope in similar fun-loving children and leap into the pool with them!

Shirley Mabuza

Ebullient front of house guru Shirley has been at Rissington for more than ten years and she is one of life's enthusiasts. A flashing smile from the top of the steps as you climb out of your car, she may giggle and bubble (and look a bit like Barbie) but Shirley is highly capable as well as good fun and she is in her element booking days out and enthusing about the wonderful Rissington weather. It is always a good day when Shirley is around.

Adda Birch Reynardson

Adda has been at Rissington on and off since the day he left school and worked here in his gap year, but he has now taken up a permanent role as Hospitality Manager and Chris's Assistant. He's a gentleman, a wit, a bon viveur, a keen traveller and, most importantly, a consummate hotelier - and all of that despite having worked for Jamie Oliver throughout his university career.

And a host of other smiling faces – more than thirty of us altogether!
